It was a cold and windy December day last year when I met up with Liz and her bridesmaids in The Oxford Hotel to start capturing Liz and fiancé Ash’s wedding day. They had planned a church service followed by an informal wedding at The Fishes pub near Oxford.
I had met Liz a year before at a networking event and she liked my natural style of wedding photography and had booked me to document the story of their day. They wanted a mixture of documentary photography and fine art bridal portraits and that is just what I do!
I always enjoy the bridal preparations, often chaotic but Liz and Ash were the most laid back, lovely people you could meet, so when I arrived everything was very calm. She looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress.
The flower girls, Liz’s nieces were super excited and we took some shots in the hotel lobby, all decked out for Christmas, before we headed off to St Lawrence Church in North Hinksey Village just outside Oxford.
I had to stand at the back of the church for most of the ceremony but was able to move forward to capture some lovely natural shots of the happy couple when the register was being signed. Liz’s nephew was such a character and he amused me all day. I am always on the look out for bored and mischievous children in the church.
The wind was howling outside so we decided to do the family and couple shots in the beautiful church before everyone drove to The Fishes Restaurant in North Hinksey for the wedding reception. I love the picture of Liz taking a phone shot of her friends in the church. You don’t often see a bride behind a camera on her wedding day!
They had a drinks reception at The Fishes after the wedding breakfast and had a party with their friends. A beautiful, relaxed and fun wedding.
