American couple, Katie and Jeff, planned a summer wedding in Henley on Thames. They brought their family and friends from USA for their wedding party in Henley on Thames in Oxfordshire. Katie’s brother used to live in Henley on Thames and on a previous visit last year, they fell in love with the beautiful, riverside town and planned to have a destination wedding bringing 30 of their friends and family with them.
We had been in touch by e mail, but my first meeting with Jeff and Katie was two days before the wedding to go over the last minute details. I was a little surprised to hear that they had changed venues at the 11th hour and their first choice of venue wasn’t going to work. Luckily, the Hotel du Vin in Henley came to the rescue and planned their sit down wedding in less than 48 hours. At this point, I began to realise that Katie was a very laid back bride as she was taking all these changes in her stride!
To satisfy the UK residency regulations for weddings, Katie and Jeff were married in a civil ceremony in their home town in Florida, USA a few weeks before. They were having a wedding blessing at the Sacred Heart Church in Henley on Thames followed by drinks reception and wedding breakfast at the Hotel du Vin, also in the town.
They wanted their wedding photography to be natural and relaxed which suited their personalities. They were married on one of the hottest days of the year and everyone was enjoying the sun and drinks reception in the courtyard of the Hotel du Vin.
Katie, Jeff and myself headed out for a walk along the river for some photographs. Henley was extremely busy with tourists and pre regatta organisation and they received lots of attention during our walk. They wanted the backdrop of the bridge and River Thames in their shots and we walked to the Leader Club pontoon and the Red Lion terrace on the river which has the most amazing light. (Sorry, I get exited about light!)
During the drinks reception, I got to know most of their guests as I try to chat to everyone and look for the characters in the wedding party of which there are always a few. Katie’s family are from New York and they were a lot of fun. It was no surprise to me that before the dessert had been served, tables had been pushed to the side and everyone was up dancing to ‘New York, New York’, just fabulous to see wedding guests having such a good time.
If you are planning a winter, autumn, spring or summer wedding in Henley on Thames and looking for a wedding photographer who will capture natural and relaxed wedding photographs, please get in touch.
