This lovely family had seen my work on a friend’s wall and really liked my informal and natural style of family photography. They booked to do their autumn family photo shoot at their home.
Their house had a beautiful garden and backed on to fields and we could take advantage of the gorgeous autumn colours and textures. With three young children in the photo shoot, I think it is always a good idea to start in or around your home as snacks and drinks are never far away. If the children are a little shy, I ask them to show me their favourite toys and show me around their home/garden giving me a chance to look for the best locations and light. We can also incorporate some of their favourite toys or things into the shoot, although I usually leave this to the latter part of the photo shoot as it is not always easy to prize a 2 year old from their favourite bicycle!
I like to make my family photo shoots fun and very informal to capture children playing and encourage natural smiles. As this was an autumn family photo shoot, we played a few games in the leaves, jumped on the trampoline, played throwing games with Dad, had cuddles and pushes on the swing from Mum and then after a few snacks we headed inside to the lounge of their home. We opened the patio doors and pushed the furniture back a little and we had some perfect light for some of the family shots.
